Beyond time and wear pattern, small adjustments can make the break-in smoother.

Adjusting Straps Correctly

  • Leave a few millimetres of space between your foot and the strap; they should be secure but not tight.

  • Over-tightening prevents natural movement and increases rubbing, especially over the instep and near the toes.

  • As uppers soften and stretch, you may need to tighten by one hole to maintain stability.

Choosing the Right Width and Footbed

  • Classic vs soft footbeds (depending on model and region).

If a properly sized shoe still feels aggressive after a careful break-in:
