Measure at Different Times
Foot size naturally changes throughout the day as your feet expand with use and time spent standing, so measuring at different times can produce slightly different results—measuring later in the day gives the widest fit that your shoe will need to accommodate.
Measure Foot Length
Place your foot against a wall and measure from heel to your longest toe. Measure both feet and use the larger.
Add approximately 8–12 mm to your foot length to allow for natural movement. This may vary slightly depending on the shoe style. For dress shoes 6 - 8 mm and for boots up to 10 - 15 mm. You want enough space so your toes don’t hit the front during movement, but not so much that your foot slides.
Measure Foot Width (Ball of Foot)
Measure around the widest part of your foot—the ball (where your toes meet your foot).
- Stand with full weight on your foot
- Wrap a tape measure snug (not tight) and keep it straight
This measurement determines how your foot sits and functions in the shoe. Compare your measurement to the footbed width:
When Trying On
- Stand, don’t sit
- Allow ~8 - 12 mm space at the toes
- Ensure the widest part of your foot aligns with the widest part of the shoe
- Heel should feel secure, without slipping

Protect from Day One
Before wearing your shoes outdoors, apply a suitable protective spray or treatment based on the material:
- Leather (smooth): Use a conditioning cream or leather protector
- Suede & nubuck: Apply a water and stain repellent spray designed specifically for textured leathers
- Fabric or mixed materials: Use a general protective spray
This creates a barrier against moisture, stains, and daily wear. Reapply every few weeks depending on use.
General Cleaning Principles
- Clean regularly—don’t let dirt build up
- Always use a soft brush or cloth first to remove loose debris
- Avoid soaking shoes unless they are specifically designed for it
- Let shoes air dry naturally—never use direct heat
Material-Specific Care
Smooth Leather
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth
- Apply leather conditioner to maintain softness and prevent cracking
- Polish if needed to restore finish
Suede & Nubuck
- Use a suede brush to lift dirt and restore texture
- For marks, use a suede eraser or specialist cleaner
- Avoid water where possible—always use protective spray
Cork (e.g. footbeds)
- Wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth
- Avoid soaking, as cork can dry out or crack
- Use cork sealant if the surface becomes dry over time
Rubber & Soles
- Clean with mild soap and water
- Use a brush to remove dirt from tread
- Check regularly for wear to maintain grip and support
Odour Management
To minimise foot odour:
- Allow shoes to air out between wears
- Avoid wearing the same pair every day
- Use antibacterial sprays or foot powders if needed
- Natural options like baking soda (light sprinkle overnight) can help absorb odour
- Ensure feet are clean and dry before wearing
Storage & Longevity Tips
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Use shoe trees (especially for leather) to maintain shape
- Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or drying
- Rotate your shoes to reduce wear and allow full drying between uses
Icon Footwear offers free express delivery on all orders over $250. For orders under $250, standard post delivery is available for $12, and express post delivery for $18. Please note that we do not ship outside of Australia.
Orders are generally processed and dispatched by 3:00 pm on weekdays (Monday to Friday). All shipments are sent via Australia Post. Delivery times begin after dispatch and vary depending on location: next business day delivery is possible for some capital cities, 2–4 business days for regional and rural areas, and up to 7 business days for remote locations, in line with Australia Post’s service standards.
During holiday periods and other special events (such as Christmas, New Year, and major public holidays), delivery timeframes may be affected. Customers are advised to observe the cut-off dates published by Australia Post for guaranteed pre-holiday delivery. Icon Footwear will also communicate any relevant shipping deadlines on our website and via email, but final responsibility for meeting postal cut-offs rests with the customer. Orders placed after Australia Post’s advised cut-off dates for a given holiday period may not arrive before the holiday, even if express shipping is selected.
We recommend selecting a delivery address where someone will be available to accept the parcel, as many Australia Post services require a signature or redirection to a local post office/parcel locker if unattended.
In almost all cases, if a product appears on our website and can be added to your cart, it is in stock. Should an item become temporarily unavailable after purchase, we will contact you by email or phone to advise of the expected availability or offer a full refund.
